how did world war ii affect lives of african americans?
They have gained respect and recognition in the war. Families saw some public sentiment against racial segregation. Segregation was ended for armed force officers in 1942, and for the entire armed forces in 1998.
Tuskegee airmen
The Tuskegee Airmen was a group of African American pilots, since they were black they were segregated from the white troops. They became well respected, elite unit. They blew along side with bombers traveling to Europe to protect them. No bomber was lost while being escorted by the Tuskegee Airmen.
Holocaust
Adolf Hitler tried to get rid of all Jews in Europe. He thought aryan race was superior (better) than any other race. His army made the Jews leave their homes, then Jews were forced to work as slaves, then were forced into concentration camps (death camps). Concentration camps were camps where people were murdered by breathing poison gas.
